PART XXVIII GENERAL MINING REQUIREMENTS — Mine design
519
(1) An employer of an underground mine or an open pit mine in which 3 or more benches are to be mined, shall
519(a)
develop and maintain a mine design certified by a professional engineer assessing the ground stability of the active and proposed workings of the mine; describe the geology of the mine including structural features; the general layout;
519(b)
operate the mine in accordance with the design; outline the geometry of existing and proposed excavations; bench heights and berm widths;
519(c)
assess and update the design at least annually and before an alteration is made to the mine that may significantly affect the ground stability of the mine; and describe previous occurrences of ground instability; ramp design;
519(d)
keep the design readily available at the mine site for review by an officer and by the occupational health and safety committee, the worker health and safety representative or the workplace health and safety designate, as applicable . describe the mining method including stope sequencing and blasting methods; overall slopes;
519(2)
The underground mine design shall consist of drawings, plans or specifications and shall
519(e)
specify the ground support system; stability studies;
519(f)
describe measures planned and used to assess potential ground instability, including instrumentation and computer modelling; blasting procedures to be used;
519(g)
include ground control procedures; provision for water removal;
519(h)
include blasting procedures to be used; scaling techniques;
519(i)
include provisions for ground water control; and additional wall support;
519(j)
provide a geological characterization and composition analysis of the rock to be mined or quarried. a wall monitoring program; and
519(3)
Where 3 or more benches are to be mined in an open pit, the open pit mine design shall consist of drawings, plans or specifications and shall include
519(k)
the location of overburden and waste stockpiles.
