In workings of clay, sand, gravel or other type of unconsolidated material, an employer shall ensure that, where ripping is required to loosen frozen material, the equipment

is operated perpendicularly to the working face; and
660(b)
does not approach closer to the working face than a distance equal to the height of the face.
