An employer shall ensure that a raise being driven that is inclined at more than 50 ° from the horizontal, and that is to be more than 16 metres slope length and into which a worker shall enter
554(a)
is driven by a raise climber or other hoisting device that protects the worker from falling material while ascending and descending; or
554(b)
is divided into at least 2 compartments, one of which is maintained as a ladderway and is timbered to within a safe distance of the face, but that distance shall not exceed 7.5 metres.
